Legions Imperialis part 2: command squads and epic conversions

Task 1: all Solar Auxilia Command Squads troopers must wear black coats

Task 2: and they must be equipped with the legit weapons

For the first and the second Solar Auxilia Command Squads (blue and red flags, two Sub-Cohort HQs) I achieve the goal: volkite chargers for the Legate Commander's troopers, lasrifles for the Auxilia Tactical Command.

For Pioneer Company Command Squads (green flags, with axes because of Velatarii wargear) I have to compromise (I don't have enough miniatures)

One Tactical Commander is a modified Legate Commander (or Lord Marshal), with four else I get the staff troopers. Lasrifles on their side, tank crew men to modify two of them. Centurion crests for all the officers. Lens at the tip of the telescopes.

I declare war to undercuts

I work on the already painted Velatarii miniatures.

Two Tercios almost completed

Before Legate Commander base had two flags, now each detachments has a colour: blue and red for Sub-Cohorts, green and teal green for Pioneer Companies. Colours on shoulders too.

Legions Imperialis part 1: Solar Auxilia Legate Commander

Legions Imperialis deserves my hobby efforts. I've always wished Epic scale miniatures, I've always wished to deploy squadrons of tanks, squadrons of Sentinels, superheavy tanks, squadrons of Arvus...! Solar Auxilia is my first choice alongside Knights Questoris, they look  great together. Solar Auxilia indeed looks like Mechanicus infantry that could support Knights and Titans.

I don't appreciate just three details: Ogryns-cyborg (they are more suitable for Mechanicus indeed), bases too short (I can't handle them) and tanks without bases (so they look smaller compared to infantry).

So tanks must be placed on a base to become higher. (Why in Legion Imperialis infantry needs bases and tank doesn't?) 40mm round base looks great for Leman Russ, but Malcador and Baneblade need bigger oval bases, quite expensive, then I make by myself the bases recycling the old plastic sprues.

Another detail I don't like so much is the Leman Russ battle cannon barrel. It could be a good idea to replace it with Maldador's Demolisher cannon, or to shorten the Vanquisher barrel. There are plenty of weapon options, I have to find some way to not waste them!

Painting the infantry on the sprue is clever, never done before by me, but it's necessary with the epic scale of Legions Imperialis.

Small conversions: centurion crests for the Lord Marshal and other officers.
Free-hand for banner, decals are not my cup of tea...

Mine Solar Auxilia troopers are golden as Braganza besiegers. They still need some work.

Heroquest Barbarian Mission 6: the Empire Hunter

Saving Sir Ragnar. A brave Empire Hunter escorts to safety the rescued prisoner (I've changed Sir Ragnar face, now he has a mustache). Two Heroes ready but not yet anyone of the original four ones...

The starting miniature was a very old Elf, from the box Fantasy Regiments. I replaced his head with the Advanced HeroQuest Warrior's helmet and I sculpted the face with green stuff. I replaced his feet too, before those boots were too pointed (Elfish style), and the plume too, with this pale red tuft I don't remember where I got it.

Above the green stuff work and the firts steps of the painting. When I finished the model I had the great idea to add the bowstring. It was a lot of work, but it was worth it.

A lot of green for this Empire Hunter (his eyes too): he is deployed in the vanguard  and explores the dungeons if necessary, to grant the safety of his marching fellows.

I found this picture with the legendary Heroes of Dungeon Quest, it can be useful to compare the scale with Heroquest miniatures.
